The Mouri Shakh is the Turkmen Gul carpet in its fullest expression — a format so ancient and so precise that weavers from Central Asia to Afghanistan have been returning to it across centuries without ever exhausting it. This piece, now thirty years in the world, lays the classic Bokhara pattern across a field of deep crimson: rows of large, round Guls arranged in military order against the red, each one drawn in navy with ivory centres, each one identical and yet — looked at long enough — subtly alive.

At 200 knots per square inch, this is a carpet of serious intention. Wholly wool, foundation and pile, it has the weight and sheen of a piece that has been lived with and loved. Some rugs improve with age. This is one of them.
