A Herat Laghari jajim of deep navy and crimson — the horizontal stripe structure of the Laghari tradition resolved in a palette of cool indigo blue and deep red, with amber geometric devices providing the connective warmth between them.
The field alternates between plain deep navy bands and narrower decorative rows, the navy dominant across the surface and the crimson present as accent ground within the geometric device rows. Within the decorative rows, small connected diamond-and-quatrefoil forms in amber-orange outlined in ivory build the repeated geometric vocabulary that the jajim format deploys in horizontal accumulation. The palette is cooler and more nocturnal than the sandy warmth of the Laghari jajim tradition's lighter register — the navy reading as the primary colour of the field, the red as its heat-tempered counterpart. The two together, with the amber accent, produce a piece that sits comfortably in darker, more considered interiors without competing with them.
The border continues the same diamond-quatrefoil repeat in amber on a deep crimson ground, running as a strong red frame on all four sides — a compositional choice that gives the cooler navy field a defined and warm perimeter, and the piece its name. Woven in wool by Laghari craftspeople in Herat.
A hand-woven rug is an investment piece. With proper care it will last a lifetime and become a cherished heirloom. Each piece in this collection is made by hand, making every piece entirely one of a kind.
Variations in colour and tone — known as abrash — are a hallmark of authentic handmade rugs, particularly tribal and vintage pieces. Wear and age only add to their beauty.
