Where the older Kalainav in this collection builds around a single large central medallion, this piece takes a different approach: the field is divided into a grid of twelve compartments — three columns, four rows — each one containing a geometric butterfly or cross motif in deep aubergine and old gold against a dark navy-green ground. The effect is of a curated collection within a single object, each panel complete in itself and yet clearly part of something larger.

The border runs in geometric bands, layered and precise. Wholly wool, flat-woven in Herat by Turkmen craftspeople. A piece for people who appreciate that structure and beauty are not opposites.
