Khal Mohammadi carpets come overwhelmingly in red. Which is why this one — an emerald field so vivid it reads almost as electric, covered in rows of large rounded Guls in navy and crimson — is something worth stopping for. The green is not the pale sage of a Chobi or the forest green of a fine pile carpet; it is bold and saturated, the kind of colour that changes the character of a room the moment it enters.

The Gul pattern across it is classic Turkmen work, precisely executed, each medallion anchored in navy with red and ivory detail. The border is equally confident. Woven in Mazar-e-Sharif by Turkmen craftspeople, wool on cotton, 110 knots per square inch. A piece of genuine singularity.
