The Serenade

This striking brass Dhokra sculpture, titled The Serenade, is crafted in the traditional Dhokra style—one of the oldest known methods of metal casting, practiced by tribal artisans in central and eastern India for over 4,000 years. Made using the lost-wax technique, each piece is one of a kind, carrying the small irregularities and markings that make handmade art so uniquely beautiful.

The figure of the musician, playing a wind instrument, is not just decorative—it represents a deep cultural connection to music, storytelling, and oral tradition within tribal communities. Music has long played a central role in ritual, celebration, and daily life, and this piece pays tribute to that legacy. The exaggerated features, textured detailing, and stylised posture are all hallmarks of Dhokra art, where expression is favoured over realism.
