This print features a portrait of Philippus Galle, a renowned Flemish engraver. The text surrounding the portrait describes him as “Ex Nobili et Antiqua Familia” (From a Noble and Ancient Family) and “XLOA CO∞ DCX” (We can’t be certain about the exact year, but it likely refers to 1560 or 1610). “Bremensis” (Bremensis) likely refers to his birthplace in Bremen. “Agro Gente Ortus” (Agro Gente Ortus) translates to “Born of Rural Stock”. The text “Anno Aetatis” (In the Year of his Age) precedes “W” which we can’t be certain about, but it likely refers to his age. The bottom portion of the text reads “Sufficit mihi gratia Domini” (The grace of the Lord is sufficient for me).
These prints are printed on a fine quality ivory paper.
These are reproductions of old illustrations & in most cases will have the same imperfections as the original.
