The colored aquatint by T. and W. Daniell in 1800 captures the entrance of a cave on Elephanta Island, Maharashtra. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the artwork provides a historical snapshot into the cultural and architectural significance of Elephanta. The caves, located in Western India, date back to the 2nd century BC and were constructed in the mid-5th to 6th centuries AD. Notably, Cave 1, measuring 39 meters, reveals architectural similarities with the Dumar Lena cave at Ellora, featuring rows of six columns and offering a glimpse into Elephanta's ancient heritage.
These are printed on a fine quality ivory paper.
These are reproductions of old illustrations & in most cases will have the same imperfections as the original.
