These images are by William Saville-Kent, a brilliant aquatic photographer. A pioneering marine biologist, he captured the kaleidoscopic beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia for the first time (1893), the accompanying watercolour sketches were a feast for the eyes, from the vibrant orange sea stars, colourful fish, corals capturing the polychromatic details of a flourishing reef.
